The North Hampshire Alliance became one of the first GP Federations when it was founded in the Spring of 2008. Fifteen practices from the North Hampshire area came together in a legal entity which represents the constituent GP practices, offering protection, enhanced negotiating power, and a means for collaboration across surgeries.
Although each practice retains its own identity and continues to function as a separate business, the NHA can at times, act as though it was one large practice, governed by a board of Directors.
Since its inception the NHA has had a number of successes. One of its earliest achievements was to set up and run a locality wide patient participation group which has been a valuable source of feedback and guidance to the wider group. Referral management schemes, clinical guidelines across all practices and a single contract for all minor surgery across the locality have been other notable achievements.
Such has been the success of the NHA that word has spread to other parts of Hampshire and neighbouring groups of GP practices have sought to emulate the North Hampshire Alliance.
The NHA continually seeks to expand what it can do for the GP Practices of Basingstoke and its surrounding villages, bringing together the wealth of experience and talent that exist within the fifteen practices.
